City of Tipton and Tipton Emergency Services

The municipal government of Tipton consists of a Mayor, a five-member City Council and a City Manager. City Hall is located at 407 Lynn Street and houses the offices of City Manager, City Clerk, Finance Officer, Police Department, Electric Department, Gas Department, Planning & Zoning Director, and Utility Billing. Tipton City Council meetings are held the first and third Mondays of each month at 5:30 PM. The Council Chambers are located on the second floor, and wheelchair access is available upon request.

The City of Tipton provides electric, natural gas, water and wastewater treatment utility services. This municipal utility model allows for a high degree of flexibility and extension capacity to future industrial and residential developments. Millions of dollars have been spent by City government in recent years to upgrade Tipton's infrastructure, which has been overbuilt in order to sustain future development.

The Tipton Police Department is staffed with a chief and six Iowa Law Enforcement
Academy certified officers. The depth of knowledge and experience of the officers in the Tipton Police Department provides services and expertise beyond what would normally be expected in a town with a population of 3,000 residents. Tipton is also served by the Cedar County Sheriff's Office which oversees the areas 911 dispatch and the new Cedar County Jail.

The Tipton Ambulance Service is able to respond to emergency situations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year with active volunteer members serving the Cedar County area. The group is comprised of Paramedics, Nurses, Advanced EMT’s, EMT’s, Emergency Responders and Drivers. The Tipton Fire Department provides volunteer fire coverage to roughly 110 square miles and a population totaling more than 4,700 people. In 2013, the Tipton Fire Department moved into their new state-of-the art station located on the west side of Lynn Street between 3rd and 4th Streets.
