Tipton's Independence Day Celebration

The City of Tipton and Tipton Chamber of Commerce invites everyone in the area to help us “Roll Out The Red Carpet” this Independence Day. Tipton’s 4th of July Celebration is sure to delight families throughout the area with a number of fun-filled events and activities.

D & B Shows is hosting an expanded carnival this year in the parking lot in front of the Aquatic Center . The carnival will begin on the evening of Thursday July 3rd and will operate all day on the 4th and 5th. Pony rides, a petting zoo, food vendors and more will provide plenty for families to do in the park. The Tipton Lions will have their funnel cakes, the Tipton Calvary Foursquare Church will be serving foot-long hot dogs and sno-cones, and the Cedar County Leos will be serving ice cream sundaes after the parade, with all proceeds benefitting those affected by the recent flooding.

On Friday July 4th the Kennedy Family Aquatic Center will be offering a free “open swim” from 10:00am – 1:00pm . Also be sure to stop by Family Foods before the parade for butterfly pork shop sandwiches by the Cedar Co. Pork Producers and the Tipton Chamber of Commerce.

The annual 4th of July Parade’s theme for 2008 echoes Tipton’s RAGBRAI theme: “Rolling Out The Red Carpet”. All parade floats and entrants are encouraged to creatively use this theme, or the theme of RAGBRAI and bicycling, in your entries. Headlining the parade is our 2008 Grand Marshall, Ashley Miller. Ashley is the state of Iowa ’s most decorated female high school athlete of all time, and has brought great pride to the Tipton community during her phenomenal career. The parade will begin at 2:00pm and will follow the same route as in 2007. Parade entries are asked to be at their respective line-up locations between 1:15 and 1:30pm. Please see the parade route and line-up areas below.

PLEASE NOTE: only licensed drivers of ATV's and 4-wheelers will be permitted to ride these vehicles in the parade. Unlicensed youth drivers will not be permitted, according to the Tipton Police Department.

Please contact event coordinator Mike Pelzer at 886-6191 or Travis Alden at the Chamber office at 886-6350 with any questions.
